About Rita Mayfield

Rita Mayfield serves the communities of Waukegan, North Chicago, and part Gurnee as State Representative for the 60th District. She was appointed to the seat in in July 2010 to finish the term of the late Eddie Washington and has been serving since.

Rita is committed to serving the needs of educating children and improving the lives of the less fortunate. Her legislative priorities include improving the quality of education throughout Illinois, protecting our environment, expanding access to quality health care, promoting small business and economic development, and creating opportunities to reduce recidivism.

Mayfield supports measures that control unfunded mandates on local schools, provide a more equitable way to fund schools, and improve curriculum. She works diligently to ensure that students have guaranteed access to safe and nurturing learning environments.

Representative Mayfield has served as the Vice President of the Waukegan Board of Education, member of the Waukegan Schools Foundation Board, volunteer financial instructor for Habitat for Humanity, and founding member of Citizens Organized for School Leadership Accountability (COSLA)

Rita earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Columbia College and a Master of Science in Management and Organization Behavior with an emphasis in Organization Development from Benedictine University.

Representative Mayfield lives in Waukegan with her husband Wesley, son Ruben and daughter Iyana.
